The Surge In Solar Installation Is Continuing In 2015

In Australia one in five homes have gone solar with South Australia leading the pack with 24% using solar.

The amazing thing is that just 5% of homes had roof top panels.

It’s also interesting that peak power demand on the grid has shifted. It used to be in mid afternoon and it is now seven in the evening.

“The surge in rooftop solar continues unabated in South Australia, with the local grid operator reporting that another 17,000 homes installed rooftop solar in 2014, a rise of 11 per cent over the previous year – and 23 per cent of all residential customers now produce their own solar energy.

The latest update was included in the annual results of Spark Infrastructure, which owns SA Power Networks, as well as two network operators in Victoria.

South Australia is the star performer, thanks to excellent solar resources and historically high retail prices. It is estimated there is now more than 550MW of rooftop solar on 174,000 installations in the state.”  read more

 

“An astonishing one out of every five households in Australia is now relying on solar energy, a new report from the Australian Bureau of Statistic (ABS) reveals. Just 3 years ago only 5 percent of homes used rooftop solar panels or solar water heating, but today a full 19 percent do. To put that into perspective, by most accounts, fewer than .4 percent of homes in the US rely on solar.
